sct.myfines.eu: Spanish fine or fraud?

In recent months European drivers have been receiving notifications by post to pay a Spanish fine via the website sct.myfines.eu. Is it a real fine or is it a fraud?

The notification shows data from the Catalan Traffic Service (SCT), so if you have recently been in Catalonia you might think it is a genuine fine. The truth is that the official website of the SCT is very different from the one shown in these letters.

As can be seen in the images, the official SCT website has its own online fine payment service. Why would they use another website for the same thing? Suspicious.

What are the main differences? The official SCT website is hosted on the website of the Generalitat de Catalunya and uses all the official logos of the local institutions. However, sct.myfines.eu uses an SCT logo but shows “Babyloweb – Info” as the name of the website. Suspicious.

One more: the letter they use as a model corresponds to a sanction from the municipality of Rome. Suspicious.

Internet scams are becoming more and more frequent, and this website shows all the warning signs imaginable. I wouldn’t give out my credit card details if a website that claims to be official shows so many inconsistencies.
